Avni Shah, MD Ophthalmology Santa Rosa, CA

Education

I grew up in New Jersey and went to Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. My internship was at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, and I completed my ophthalmology residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. My fellowship in glaucoma was at Tufts Medical Center, and I undertook a second fellowship in global ophthalmology at the University of Utah.

Professional Focus

ophthalmology

I love seeing my patients able to enjoy their hobbies again with the vision they regain after cataract surgery, and I get great satisfaction from the long-term relationships I form with my glaucoma patients and their families. My passion within medicine is delivering care to underserved populations, and I was privileged to spend a year of my training working with the global outreach division of the Moran Eye Center performing cataract and glaucoma surgeries and training local ophthalmologist partners in Nepal, Haiti, India, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Micronesia.
